Are your friends there for you?

Martin Luther Kind JrMartin Luther King Jr. once said  “In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Sometimes the silence of our friends is deafening. In life we expect the worst from our enemies. But, we  expect the best from our friends. We expect kindness, and honesty; we expect compassion and fairness. We also expect them to be supportive.

Maybe we do expect a lot from our friends. And perhaps we should take a look and see if we are being realistic. If they weren’t there for you, could it be because they were going through a rough time and you didn’t know it?  As a friend, why didn’t we pick up on that? More important, why didn’t they let us know they needed us.

I think we need to reach out to each other, and let each other know we need them. Would that not deepen our friendship?

Lots of questions, lots of expectations.

Friendships are priceless…and should be protected and nurtured.

Perhaps today we could let our friends know, we are here for them. And maybe they will say to us, we are here for you.

But hopefully all of us, will be the friend we want others to be to us.
