Ricardo Montalban once said, “Politics is too partisan, and sometimes patriotism is cast aside. Patriotism is honor and love of your country and your brothers and sisters. With politics I get the impression that it’s all about what’s good for the party and not necessarily what’s good for the country.”
What he says…isn’t that how we feel? The political parties are constantly bickering, degrading and blaming one another. It certainly doesn’t feel like they are trying to work together to do what is right for the country. It seems they are working for their own party.
Like Ricardo Maltalban, I am wondering where their patriotism lies. Is it with their party or with this country. I wonder where their love for the country is and I wonder why they aren’t doing what is right for this country, protecting it, helping the people of the country and helping our country grow and prosper. I also wonder why they are allowing our country to be torn apart.
I have no answers, but I know when right is right, and wrong is wrong. I was listening to a politician on a TV commercial Monday night. And it occurred to me, he stands there and makes all of these promises about what he is going to do when he is elected, there is no way he could keep one of them let alone all of them. He will be new in the Senate if elected. There will be nothing if anything a newly elected official can do his first term unless he has a magic wand.
Maybe it’s time we look at the people in congress and decide like all personnel directors of companies do, see whether our employees in congress have held up their end and performed a good job. We need to check and see how many days they have missed work, if they work well with others and if they work as a team toward a common goal…and toward solving problems and what is good for the country. Then take our stand at the voting polls and hire better employees for congress. I’m just saying, if we aren’t happy with our employees, it is time to fire them and hire better ones.
