She is a professional road bicycle racer and two-time Olympic gold medalist, the winner of the women’s individual time trial in 2008 and 2012 as well as other wins. Prior to a professional cycling career, she was a swimmer, distance runner and a triathlete.
Diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips she was told she could no longer run at that level. This ended her triathlon career.
Instead of giving up and being defeated she turned her focus and efforts to cycling.
So many of us are told due to reasons beyond our control we can no longer do things we once did and enjoyed. Sometimes, it involves our careers. What is important to note about Kristin is she didn’t throw in the towel on life. She just made a few adjustments and continued going forward in her life. This takes great amounts of courage. The thing is, we may have to give up something, but if we look around we will find another direction to go in…another goal to achieve…another focus.
The secrete is not to allow ourselves to throw pity parties and wallow in defeat. As my dad use to say, “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and go on.”
What about you, had to give up something? Did you find something else to focus on and achieve?
